Recap: CLAW at Browne Jacobson

On Monday the 21st of January, a group of 35 Warwick students visited the firm Browne Jacobson in their Birmingham offices for an open evening organised by the CLAW Medical law team.

Browne Jacobson is a full service National Law firm with offices in Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester, Exeter and London. They specialize in a wide range of services, including Health, Advisory and Litigation (HAL).

The open evening first provided us all with an insight into the firm’s structure through talks by a partner of the firm, a solicitor and trainees.

The other half of the evening was aimed at supplying students with useful vacation scheme and training contract application tips. During this time, each table took part in a group project - building a spaghetti tower with marshmallows - in order to get a sense of how it is to work in groups, as done during vac scheme assessment centres.

I, personally, found this advice session very useful as many tips were given by trainees based on their recent experiences in applying to Browne Jacobson. It provided us all with significant insight into mistakes commonly made and what the solicitors and partners actually look for in applicants during interviews and assessment centres.

At the end of the evening, an hour was set aside for networking with the trainees and solicitors. This took place in a different area, thus giving students an all-round feel of the firm, and its open plan office structure. Overall, it was a very useful evening, especially as it allowed us all to explore a new type of law firm: not strictly commercial and regional.
